Printmaking Residency in Spain
I have had the most wonderful residency at Art Print Residency in Arenys de Munt, a small town north of Barcelona, Spain, along the Mediterranean coast. My hosts Jordi and Claudia could not have been more accommodating and helpful. I shared an apartment with 2 lovely women - Ira from Kiev, and Yuki from Japan - which was connected to their home and studio. The seaside was a 20 minute walk from the house, and the village just minutes up the road.
I chose to develop a series of carborundum and collagraph prints, a new technique for me and one I’ve been curious about for years. The plates are created on plexiglass which is lightweight, inexpensive and easy to transport/ship, unlike most metal plates that are heavy and easily damaged. I try to be economical when I do art/travel, as supplies can be bulky and weighty, and I don’t want to pay for extra shipping or luggage.
This is a technique I will come back to again, as it’s simple and has infinite possibilities. Thank you to Jordi and Claudia for this special opportunity!
